Corn Snake Shedding

Corn Snake In ShedThroughtout it's life the snake continues to grow, slowing down as it gets older and because of this sheds it's skin periodically.

As the snake approaches shedding the colours of the skin suddenly appear more dull than usual, a couple of days later the eyes cloud over and look blue. After several days this disappears and the snake looks nearer normal for a few days although at this time it may seem shy and retire to a hide or spend long periods soaking in the water bowl, often refusing food.

Freshly Shed Corn SnakeWhen it is ready to shed, the snake will come out of hiding and be more active, rubbing it's nose in the substrate and against anything rough such as bark furnishings or rocks.Eventually the snake will make a hole in the old skin on it's nose and loosen the skin around it's snout.

The snake slithers forwards out of the skin pulling it off inside out.If the snake is in good condition and the humidity is right, the skin will come off intact including the eye covers.
